In the idyllic coastal town of Byron Bay, a group of naturists finds solace in the freedom of the clothing-optional beach at Tyagarah. Led by Duncan James, vice-president of Northern Rivers Naturists, these individuals embrace the beach as Mother Nature intended, finding peace and connection with nature.
However, looming in the horizon is the threat of losing this cherished space as authorities plan to strip Tyagarah of its official clothing-optional status. Despite its designation in 1998 to promote non-sexual nudity, concerns about behavior in the surrounding areas have led to the decision to shut down the beach.
Residents and naturists alike express disappointment and frustration at the impending closure, citing the loss of a valuable communal hub. Efforts to save the beach, including a petition with over 7,700 signatures, have been met with resistance from authorities.
As the deadline for closure approaches, the naturist community plans a farewell celebration with activities like naked Frisbee, volleyball, and cricket. Despite the uncertain future, their commitment to preserving their beliefs remains steadfast.
