The Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan has taken a stand against the declining decorum in the house by forming an ethics committee. The recent unruly behavior of lawmakers, including the use of foul language during a speech by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, prompted the speaker to take action.
In response to the suspension of 11 opposition members for their disruptive behavior, opposition MPAs staged a protest outside the assembly. Despite being barred from attending the upcoming sittings, they challenged the speaker’s decision and demanded their reinstatement.
Amidst the chaos, the speaker emphasized the importance of maintaining ethical standards and conduct in the assembly. He highlighted instances of lawmakers resorting to abuses and obscenities, stating that politics should not be about such behavior.
The formation of the ethics committee aims to monitor the conduct of lawmakers and address any democratic obstructions. As the opposition continues to protest and demand justice for the suspended members, the speaker remains firm in upholding the rules and regulations of the assembly.\
