Pakistan’s Defence Minister Warns of Potential Cross-Border Attacks on Afghanistan

In light of escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has issued a warning that Pakistan will not hesitate to launch attacks on Afghan territory to protect its sovereignty. Asif emphasized the importance of prioritizing Pakistan’s interests and condemned the use of Afghan soil for exporting terrorism.

During a recent interview, Asif also ruled out the possibility of dialogue with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and announced a renewed military operation, Azm-e-Istehkam, to address increasing violence in the region. The TTP, aligned with the Afghan Taliban, advocates for strict Islamic laws and has been accused of launching attacks from across the border.

Despite strained relations, Pakistan has expressed a commitment to remaining engaged with Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed plans for diplomatic talks with the Afghan Taliban and stressed the importance of maintaining a dialogue with Afghanistan.

However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative consequences of military operations on Pakistan’s relations with the Afghan Taliban and the effectiveness of reducing violence in the region.
