Excitement fills the air as Jordanians await Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Al-Khasawneh’s announcement of an official holiday for the upcoming Hijri New Year. The first day of Muharram, marking the start of the Hijri year, is scheduled for July 7, 2024. This annual observance typically warrants a public holiday declaration in Jordan.
This year, the transition to the new Hijri year, 1446, falls on a Sunday following the weekend, extending festivities into a three-day break for the locals. Earlier in the year, Jordanians enjoyed a nine-day holiday period for Eid Al-Adha.
Aside from the upcoming Hijri New Year celebration, other notable public holidays in 2024 include the Parliamentary elections on September 10, the commemoration of the Prophet’s date of birth on September 15, and Christmas on December 25. With a diverse range of holidays, Jordanians have many occasions to look forward to throughout the year.
