A Serbian police officer was forced to use self-defence against a man who shot him with a crossbow in front of the Israeli embassy in Belgrade, resulting in the attacker’s death. The Serbian prime minister labeled the incident as a “heinous terrorist act”, with early indications linking the attack to individuals associated with the Wahhabi movement. Several arrests were made in connection to the incident, and security measures in Belgrade were heightened.
Despite the attack, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic condemned it as an “act of insanity” that should not reflect on any religion or nation. The Israeli embassy confirmed no employees were harmed, with ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack. The Balkan nation has continued arms sales to Israel despite recent conflicts in Gaza.
