Serbian police are investigating a possible network and ties with ‘foreign terrorist groups’ after the crossbow attack on an Israeli embassy guard.

An attacker fired a crossbow and wounded a police officer guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade, resulting in his own death in what officials described as a “terrorist attack against Serbia”. The officer was hit in the neck with an arrow, while the assailant was shot and killed after pulling out the weapon from a bag.

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic stated that the incident is being treated as a terrorist attack and one person was arrested near the scene. The officer underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.

President Aleksandar Vucic vowed to crack down on terrorism in Serbia, while Prime Minister Milos Vucevic condemned the act as a “heinous terrorist act”. The Israeli embassy in Belgrade remains closed as investigations continue.

Israeli institutions worldwide have been on high alert for attacks since Israel’s invasion in October. Despite the incident, Serbia maintains close relations with Israel and is committed to ensuring its citizens’ safety.
