Bolivian President Confirms Attempted Coup by General
Bolivian President Luis Arce revealed that the former general behind the failed coup had ambitions to seize the presidency. In an interview with The Associated Press, President Arce refuted claims of an economic crisis in Bolivia and defended democracy in the face of the coup attempt.
The president clarified that he stayed to uphold democracy and dismissed allegations made by detained individuals associated with the coup plot, attributing the issue to those involved rather than the government. President Arce also addressed political attacks from his rival, ex-President Evo Morales, which have hindered his administration’s efforts to address economic challenges.
Despite the internal strife, President Arce highlighted Bolivia’s economic growth and plans to diversify production, particularly in areas like lithium mining for green technology. The failed coup orchestrated by General Juan Jose Zuniga prompted criminal investigations, with Zuniga’s subsequent arrest.
