US SC to rule on Trump presidential immunity claim Mon

The Supreme Court is set to announce its ruling on Trump’s claim of immunity from prosecution for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election on Monday, the final day of its current term. Chief Justice John Roberts announced July 1 as the last day of the term, which began in October, mentioning that all remaining opinions will be announced then.

Among the pending cases are Trump’s appeal against election-related criminal charges, laws in Florida and Texas regarding social media content control, and a challenge to government regulation on debit card fees. The court’s conservative justices have hinted at support for ex-presidents having protection from criminal charges but may not fully back Trump’s bid for complete immunity.

The court’s ruling could impact the scope of the special counsel’s allegations against Trump and potentially delay his trial, previously set for March. Additionally, the court’s recent decision to limit federal regulatory power by overturning a 1984 precedent is seen as a setback for the Biden administration.
