Two US Representatives, Anna Eshoo and Chris Smith, have introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and calling on the Biden Administration to take action. The resolution aims to hold Azerbaijan accountable for its genocidal aggression, as reported by the Armenian National Committee of America.
Rep. Anna Eshoo stated, “Azerbaijan’s assault on Nagorno-Karabakh resulted in the destruction of the ethnic Armenian community that has lived there for centuries. This resolution documents the atrocities committed against the Armenian people and outlines steps for the US to pursue justice and accountability.”
Rep. Chris Smith emphasized that the Armenians have the right to live in peace in their ancient homeland, despite the ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan. The resolution recognizes the displacement of over 100,000 Armenians from Artsakh as ethnic cleansing and calls for efforts to facilitate a just and lasting peace in the region, including the release of Armenian prisoners of war and the right of Armenians to return home safely.
