Syria’s Defense Ministry has announced plans to demobilize tens of thousands of reservists, signaling the country’s victory over foreign-backed terrorists. Major General Ahmed Suleiman revealed that the demobilization will be done in three phases, starting next month until October 2025. The reserve service, currently set at six years, will be reduced to a maximum of two years in the final phase.
The goal is to build an advanced army through voluntary enlistment, allowing those who have completed five years of service to be discharged if they desire. Similarly, volunteers with ten years of service will be exempt from reserve duty. Syria has made significant progress in reclaiming regions from terrorist groups since 2011, despite US involvement in the region under the guise of protecting oil fields.
With this demobilization plan, Syria aims to optimize its military readiness while transitioning to a more voluntary-based system for a stronger defense force.
