Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and Russian Minister of Defense Andrei Belousov recently discussed the escalating conflict in Ukraine during a phone conversation.
The Russian defense ministry highlighted concerns about increased tension due to the continuous delivery of US-made weapons to Ukraine during the call initiated by the American side. Both ministers exchanged views on the Ukraine situation, emphasizing the dangers of escalating the conflict further with the ongoing supply of weapons.
Pentagon spokesman Major General Pat Ryder emphasized the importance of communication channels amidst Russia’s military operation in Ukraine during the call, which was the first between Austin and Belousov since the latter’s appointment by President Vladimir Putin.
Moscow’s strained relationship with Washington, exacerbated by the military operation in Ukraine, has led to heightened tensions, with diplomatic communications reaching an “absolute minimum.” The US has faced criticism for providing military support to Ukraine, leading to concerns about potential consequences and strained ties between the two nations.
