Paris: an island of resistance against the far right

Paris, known for its humanist values, stands against the rise of the far right party, Rassemblement National (RN). With traditional electoral results showing minimal RN support in the capital, Mayor Anne Hidalgo emphasizes that Paris will always be a bastion of tolerance and freedom.

In recent European elections, the RN struggled to gain traction in Paris, unlike in other parts of France. Raphaël Glucksmann and other progressive candidates topped the polls, showcasing the city’s rejection of far-right ideologies.

Despite pockets of RN support in select districts, Paris remains a stronghold of liberal values. The city’s diverse and educated population continues to resist anti-immigrant sentiments, making it a challenging landscape for the far right to penetrate.
