Pakistani lawmakers banned for allegedly insulting province’s first woman CM

Lahore: Eleven opposition lawmakers of Pakistan’s Punjab Assembly were banned for 15 sittings for allegedly using “abusive language” against the province’s first woman Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz.

The lawmakers, belonging to Imran Khan’s party, were punished for calling Maryam the “Queen of mandate thieves and daughter of certified thief Nawaz Sharif.” The Speaker took action due to constant interruptions and verbal attacks.

Opposition leader Malik Ahmad Bachhar condemned the ban, stating it was unjust for criticizing Maryam over an anti-people budget. He reaffirmed that the voice of the opposition cannot be silenced.

During the session, opposition members tore budget copies and shouted at Maryam, causing her to lose her temper. The opposition labelled her a “fake CM, installed by the military establishment.”
