The recent meeting between South Korea’s ambassador to Russia and Russia’s deputy foreign minister in Moscow focused on discussions regarding North Korea and the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty signed between Russia and North Korea. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko expressed concerns about South Korea’s stance towards the treaty during the meeting, urging a reconsideration of the “confrontational course.”

In response, the South Korean ambassador raised concerns about the treaty’s implications on national security, emphasizing the need for Russia to clarify its intentions. The dialogue also touched upon South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s criticism of the treaty and the potential impact on international agreements.

As tensions rise, South Korea’s national security adviser issued a firm warning regarding potential repercussions of Russia’s cooperation with North Korea. The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to continue necessary dialogue despite differences in perspectives and concerns.
