Traders Resume Normal Operations in Malakal Market After Recent Tensions
Following a series of disturbing events in Malakal, traders in the main market have finally returned to their daily operations. The disruption in the flow of goods had led to a spike in prices of basic commodities, causing concern among the residents.
Recently, tribal tensions flared up in the area after a series of violent incidents resulted in the deaths of several individuals. However, with the government stepping in to assert its authority, the situation has calmed down.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, Achol Nyang, a vegetable seller, expressed relief at the return to normalcy. She emphasized the importance of cooperation between citizens and authorities to maintain stability in the state.
Abubakar Ahmed, another trader in Malakal, also confirmed that the market is now calm. However, he raised concerns about the rising prices of consumer goods, particularly corn, and urged the government to address this issue promptly.
Evangelist Charles James, Director of the Sesame Cash Exchange Agency, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for continued government control and citizen cooperation to stabilize the economic situation in Malakal.
