Satellite images reveal the extensive destruction caused by Israeli air strikes in the Lebanese village of Aita al-Shaab, a significant Hezbollah stronghold in south Lebanon. The images, captured on June 5, show at least 64 sites completely destroyed in the village, with some containing multiple buildings.
Aita al-Shaab, located in southern Lebanon where Hezbollah has strong support, withstood Israeli attacks in 2006 during a 34-day war. The current conflict, though not as widespread, still inflicts severe damage on both sides, leading to mass displacement of residents in the border area.
Both Israel and Hezbollah have suffered casualties in the fighting, with the village of Aita al-Shaab bearing heavy losses. The destruction is reminiscent of the damage from 2006, sparking fears of a full-scale war between the two adversaries.
The conflict escalated following Hamas attacks on Israel in October, prompting Hezbollah to join in solidarity. Aita al-Shaab plays a strategic role in Hezbollah’s defense strategy against Israel, making it a crucial frontline location in any potential war.
The ongoing hostilities have resulted in significant structural damage and displacement of residents on either side of the border, raising concerns about the lasting impact of the conflict.
