General Radan confirmed on Friday that there have been no security incidents reported in Iran since the polls opened at 8 am. With full security measures in place at all polling stations, everything is running smoothly across the country.
Over 61 million eligible Iranian voters are participating in the current elections, both within the country and abroad. The presidential race includes four candidates: Saeed Jalili, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and Masoud Pezeshkian. Two other candidates, Alireza Zakani and Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi, have withdrawn from the race.
Handpicked by the Constitutional Council from 80 applicants, these candidates are vying to lead the 14th administration following the unexpected passing of President Ebrahim Raisi in May. The new administration is scheduled to take office in late June or early July for a four-year term.
The early polls come following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and six others on May 19 in northwestern Iran.
