Despite diplomatic efforts, Canada’s hostility towards Iran persists, with the government refusing to allow the Iranian presidential election to be held within its borders. However, polling stations in the US-Canada border region have been set up for Iranian expats to vote.
The ongoing presidential election in Iran has seen people from all walks of life participating, with four candidates vying for the presidency after two dropped out. Bagheri Kani expressed hope for a successful election process.
In 2012, Canada severed diplomatic ties with Iran, closing its embassy in Tehran. The decision was based on various reasons, including Iran’s support for Syria and nuclear activities.
Despite Canada’s stance, Iranians in the country continue to participate in the election through designated polling stations in the US-Canada border region.
