During Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s recent visit to Washington, Western diplomatic sources noted a lack of serious intent for an all-out war on Lebanon. Despite public threats, there was consensus that war may not achieve its goals without triggering a larger conflict. Gallant emphasized that while Israel does not seek war, it is prepared for any scenario and could cause significant damage to Lebanon if provoked.
The United States, a key Israeli ally, is actively engaging in discussions with all parties involved to prevent a major escalation. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned of dire consequences for the Middle East in case of war with Hezbollah and advocated for a diplomatic solution. There are hopes that a ceasefire in Gaza could lead to reduced tensions on the Lebanese border as well.
