EU Must Invest 500B Euros in Defense in Next Decade

EU Needs to Invest 500Bln Euros in Defense in Next 10 Years – EU Commission President

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need for the European Union to invest 500 billion euros in defense over the next decade to keep up with global security demands. Von der Leyen highlighted that Europe has lagged behind China and Russia in military spending, underscoring the urgency for increased investments.

At a summit meeting in Brussels, EU leaders called for enhanced military support to Ukraine, including essential resources like air defense systems and ammunition. Additionally, the summit advocated for the implementation of a new sanctions regime targeting Russia’s alleged destabilizing activities abroad.

Moscow has cautioned NATO countries about the implications of supplying arms to Ukraine, warning against exacerbating the conflict. The call for heightened defense spending and support underscores the EU’s commitment to bolstering its security and strategic presence on the global stage.
