The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission has decided to postpone the local government election originally scheduled for July 6 to November 16, 2024. The Chairman of the commission, John Chen, cited logistical constraints as the reason behind this change in date.
Chen emphasized the need for more time to adequately prepare and procure necessary election materials, which are yet to be acquired. As part of the rescheduling process, a revised timetable will be developed to ensure all critical activities are accommodated.
He also stressed the importance of cooperation from political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to facilitate a transparent and fair election process. Detailed guidelines will be released in compliance with electoral laws to ensure a smooth procedure.
As the commission works towards a successful election, it urges all involved parties to support their efforts. Stay tuned for further updates on the new election timeline.
