The Ukrainians put on an impressive show in their match against Belgium on Matchday 3. Despite facing the third-best team in the world, Ukraine had several chances to take the lead but ended up with a goalless draw. The points were shared between the two teams, with all four teams in Group E finishing with one victory, one draw, and one loss. Unfortunately, Ukraine’s goal difference was not enough to secure their spot in the knockout stages.
The risky squad selection and the failure to convert opportunities led to Ukraine’s early exit from the competition. Despite dominating the game, Ukraine could not find the back of the net, ultimately paying the price for their lack of clinical finishing. As their group rivals progress, Ukraine will have to watch the rest of EURO 2024 from home.
While disappointed, Ukraine can be proud of their performance against Belgium and the world-class talent they faced. In the end, it was not their day, but they displayed flashes of brilliance that should be celebrated.
