South Korea recently conducted maritime firing exercises near the Northern Limit Line in the Yellow Sea for the first time since 2017. The exercises involved various military units firing munitions at virtual maritime targets. North Korea responded by sending balloons carrying garbage over the border.

The exercises near Yeonpyeong and Baengnyeong islands have reignited tensions in the region, with South Korea defending them as routine drills while North Korea views them as provocations. Residents of Yeonpyeong Island were on edge during the drills, fearing a potential conflict.

Despite tensions, South Korea maintains that the drills are conducted within its territory, while North Korea condemns them as trespassing. The situation remains precarious as both sides continue to flex their military might.
