Russia expects Bolivian authorities to manage post-coup crisis.

Russia is closely monitoring the aftermath of a failed military coup in Bolivia and expects Bolivian authorities to restore calm and stability in the country, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced. Expressing hope for a resolution in accordance with the law and without external interference, Peskov emphasized the importance of non-interference by third countries in Bolivia’s internal affairs.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed full support for President Luis Arce and condemned the coup attempt. Bolivian armed forces have withdrawn from the presidential palace in La Paz, and a general has been arrested following the government’s denouncement of the coup.

Amidst an economic crisis and tensions ahead of the 2025 general elections in Bolivia, former President Evo Morales plans to run against President Arce. When asked about Russia’s relations with the West, Peskov mentioned considering various countermeasures to sanctions, including the possibility of reducing diplomatic ties.

Peskov criticized Western interference in conflicts like Ukraine, stating that Russia will respond to hostile actions aimed at its strategic defeat. The ongoing tensions exemplify the complex geopolitical dynamics at play.
