Growing Resistance to Alleged Coup in Bolivia – RT News

Bolivia is facing a political crisis as trade unions have declared a general strike in support of the government after an attempted coup by an army general. Latin American governments have joined together to denounce the coup, which saw military police surrounding the government building in La Paz and breaking down the door.

President Luis Arce has condemned the actions as an attempted coup d’etat, calling for international support against this unconstitutional move. In response, the confederation of trade unions in Bolivia has announced an indefinite general strike to defend the democratically elected government.

General Juan Jose Zuniga, who appeared to be leading the mutinous units, announced the release of leaders from the 2019 coup, labeling them as political prisoners. Former President Evo Morales has raised concerns about foreign interference in Bolivia’s political landscape.

The international community, including leaders like Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Nicolas Maduro, has expressed solidarity with Bolivia and President Arce, condemning the coup attempt and stressing the need to protect democracy in the region.
