The Nigeria Governors’ Forum is assuring Nigerians and the organised labour of a better minimum wage resulting from ongoing negotiations. Despite rejecting the Federal Government’s proposed N62,000 wage, the governors are holding emergency meetings to find a mutually acceptable solution. Organised labour continues to push for a wage of N250,000, creating tension in the negotiations.
After a marathon meeting that extended into the early hours of Thursday, a communiqué was released by the Forum, highlighting discussions on various national issues. This included the importance of the World Bank-Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up and the need for state-level implementation. The governors also discussed the new National Minimum Wage and pledged to engage with key stakeholders for a positive outcome.
The governors expressed readiness to support various World Bank programmes being implemented in the states and discussed progress on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. They assured collaboration and support for a successful implementation of the reforms.
