Concerns Raised by International Partners and Friends of South Sudan
The International Partners and Friends of South Sudan (IPF) expressed worry over the recent outbreak of violence and the delay in passing the new national budget during a meeting in Juba. Ambassador Marjan Schippers of the Kingdom of Netherlands highlighted the impact of communal violence on the country, calling for the disarmament of civilians and neutrality from organized forces.
Amb. Schippers also addressed the struggling economy in South Sudan, emphasizing the resilience shown by its people despite inflation and uncertainty. She urged the government to speed up the passing of the 2024/25 Fiscal Year Budget and prioritize transparency and accountability in financial management.
Additionally, the IPF welcomed the government’s efforts to diversify the economy and provide clean drinking water and sanitation through the signing of the WASH compact. The envoy underscored the importance of natural resource management and sustainable development in sectors like agriculture and tourism.
As donors in the WASH sector, IPF members encouraged the government to uphold commitments outlined in the revitalized agreement for the betterment of the South Sudanese people.
