An ex-CIA officer, Larry Johnson, sheds light on the possible motives behind the failed coup attempt in Bolivia, suggesting a connection to President Luis Arce’s recent appearance at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum. Johnson hints at U.S. involvement in the coup, highlighting geopolitical tensions and Washington’s desire to maintain control in the region.

The failed coup, led by General Juan José Zuniga, aimed to overthrow the Bolivian government but was thwarted, leading to Zuniga’s arrest. Johnson explains that the coup could be a response to Bolivia’s growing alliances with Russia and China, which Washington perceives as a threat.

“The fact that countries like Bolivia and Brazil are seen creating alliances with Russia and China is rejected by Washington, that’s seen as a problem,” Johnson notes.
