External Factors Could Instigate Coup in Bolivia

Outside Forces May Provoke Coup Attempt in Bolivia – Bolivian Defense Minister

Sputnik International

The Bolivian Defense Minister, Edmundo Novillo, has suggested that the recent coup attempt in Bolivia may have been driven by external forces aiming to exploit the country’s natural resources. The minister’s comments come in the wake of a military presence at Murillo Square in La Paz, where an attempt to breach the presidential palace was foiled. Former Commander-in-Chief Gen. Juan Jose Zuniga led the failed coup, with President Luis Arce addressing the nation and ordering the military to stand down.

Novillo emphasized that General Zuniga’s actions were likely influenced by external interests seeking to control Bolivia’s political landscape for resource extraction purposes. The Minister highlighted Zuniga’s ambition to seize power illegitimately, with the support of certain military figures. The authorities are currently investigating the incident to uncover any external involvement that may have fueled the coup attempt.
