Energy Minister announces reduced electricity tariffs for key sectors

The restructuring of electricity tariffs in various sectors is a key component of the government’s Economic Modernisation Vision, according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh. The new time-bound electricity tariff, set to begin in July, aims to reduce electricity expenses for industries by encouraging them to shift more electricity usage to off-peak hours.

Minister Kharabsheh, speaking at a joint conference with Minister of Government Communication Muhannad Mubaidin, highlighted that the targeted sectors include medium- and large-scale industries, extractive industries, and the telecommunications sector.

He emphasized that the new tariff design will lead to cost savings if sectors take advantage of off-peak hours and adjust their consumption patterns. The average tariff rate for the targeted sectors remains the same as the current tariff, but substantial savings could be achieved if 25% of electricity usage is shifted, potentially saving around JD2.25 million.
