Iran Denounces Canada’s Designation of IRGC as “Terrorist Organization”

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations condemned Canada’s decision to label the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist organization” as illegal, dangerous, and politically driven. The move was seen as a violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

The ambassador emphasized the significant role of the IRGC in fighting terrorism and maintaining peace in the region, contrasting Canada’s action as a threat to peace and stability. Canada became the second country in North America to blacklist the IRGC, triggering concerns about escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf.

The ambassador warned Canada of potential consequences for its actions and recognized the contributions of the IRGC, particularly former commander Qassem Soleimani, in combating terrorist groups. Canada’s move was criticized as serving the interests of the Israeli regime and undermining international law.

Iran reserved the right to take appropriate measures in response to Canada’s decision, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the two countries.
