University of Bahr el Ghazal Lecturers Demand Payment: A Seven-Day Strike
The academic staff at the University of Bahr el Ghazal in Wau have taken a stand by going on a seven-day strike to demand their long overdue salary arrears and allowances. The University’s Academic Staff Association has united with other public universities in the country to demand what is rightfully theirs.
The lecturers have given the National Ministry of Finance a seven-day ultimatum to settle their dues or face an indefinite strike. Joseph Lual Dario, the chairperson of the Teaching Staff Association, emphasized that the government had been warned two weeks prior to the strike, and the lack of response has forced them to take this drastic step.
Lual urged the students to remain patient as the lecturers fight for their rights, ensuring that the examination schedule will not be disrupted. The demands include salary arrears, air tickets, medical allowances, and adjustments in the salary scale to match the inflation rate.
