Turkish, European police dismantle int’l drug cartel in Spain

Turkish, Spanish, and French police forces successfully dismantled an international drug cartel, capturing the wanted leader in Spain in a coordinated effort, as announced by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

Under the operation named “Argay,” Turkish and European narcotics teams collaborated in a nine-month investigation targeting the drug cartel led by Kerim Dağlıoğlu, also known as Emre Karaca, who was wanted by Turkey under a red notice.

The joint operation, involving over 400 officers from French police, Spain’s Guardia Civil, and Turkish law enforcement, led to the arrest of 42 members from various countries and the seizure of over 2 tons of cannabis, firearms, luxury vehicles, and illicit cash.

The successful outcome of this operation signifies a historic milestone in the fight against organized crime syndicates and drug cartels. Turkish security units remain dedicated to combating such criminal activities on both national and international scales.

Recent efforts have focused on targeting high-ranking members of international gangs operating within Turkey, with a total of 585 organized crime syndicates dismantled in a year, resulting in the detention of thousands of suspects and the seizure of assets worth billions of Turkish Liras.
