The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, raised serious concerns about the persistent Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. In a briefing to the Security Council, Wennesland emphasized that all Israeli settlements in the region are illegal and violate international law and UN resolutions.

Regarding Gaza, Wennesland highlighted that the ongoing hostilities are contributing to regional instability and urged for a negotiated resolution. The escalation in Gaza underscores the pressing need for a peaceful agreement to be reached.

It is imperative for the Israeli government to immediately halt all settlement activities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem to comply with international law. The situation in the Middle East requires diplomatic efforts and cooperation to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
