North Korea’s hypersonic missile explodes midair during launch, says South Korea.

A suspected North Korean hypersonic missile exploded midair after launch near Pyongyang, as reported by South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff. The missile, launched amidst North Korea’s recent pact with Russia, failed to reach its target, hinting at technical issues.

The missile, likely using solid fuel propellants, was North Korea’s first launch after signing a strategic partnership pact with Russia. This move raised concerns internationally, especially from Seoul, Washington, and Tokyo, due to potential implications on the Ukraine conflict.

In response to joint training drills by the US and South Korea, North Korea condemned the actions and hinted at retaliation. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol visited a US aircraft carrier to emphasize solidarity amidst rising tensions.

Additionally, North Korea launched balloons filled with trash towards South Korea, causing disruptions at Incheon international airport. These actions form part of a series of escalations between the two nations.
