Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, announced plans to facilitate Iranian expatriates’ participation in the upcoming presidential polls in foreign countries. Ballot papers have been sent to polling stations abroad for the election happening on Friday. Kanaani also mentioned coordination efforts with Saudi authorities to allow Iranian Hajj pilgrims to vote.
Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi stated that Saudi Arabia has not cooperated with Iran regarding Hajj pilgrims’ voting. A Plan B is in place, pending Constitutional Council approval. Over 61 million eligible voters will participate in the elections, scheduled on June 28.
Following President Ebrahim Raisi’s tragic passing in a helicopter crash, Iran moved up its presidential election by a year. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the importance of maximum public participation for national pride. He emphasized selecting the most qualified candidate is crucial for the Islamic Republic.
