In a recent UN Security Council meeting, Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, emphasized the urgent need for the full and unconditional withdrawal of US troops from Syria. Iravani argued that instead of combating terrorism, US forces are supporting terrorist groups like Al-Nusrah Front and exploiting the oil and wealth of the Syrian people. He highlighted the humanitarian crises faced by Syrians due to aggression, foreign occupation, and terrorism.
Iravani called on the international community to stand in solidarity with the Syrian people against terrorism and foreign occupation. He emphasized the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity as mandated by Security Council resolutions. Iravani condemned Israel for its aggressions against Syria’s sovereignty and reiterated Iran’s commitment to a political resolution in Syria.
Furthermore, Iravani stressed the need for continued efforts to facilitate Syria’s reconstruction and the safe return of refugees. He called on donors to fulfill their pledges to support this cause. Iravani concluded by expressing Iran’s support for the UN-led political process and commitment to alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people.
