Iran and Saudi Arabia determined to strengthen comprehensive relations

Iranian Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani recently met with Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Walid bin Abdulkarim Al Khereiji in Tehran to discuss enhancing bilateral relations. The meeting took place during the 19th Asia Cooperation Dialogue ministerial meeting, where Bagheri Kani emphasized the determination of both countries to deepen their ties in various fields.

Bagheri Kani thanked Saudi officials for assisting Iranian pilgrims during the Hajj rituals and stressed the importance of continued cooperation in providing facilities for Iranian pilgrims. Al Khereiji expressed his condolences for the recent passing of President Ebrahim Raeisi and highlighted the efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, citing cultural and historical commonalities.

In a significant development, Iran and Saudi Arabia, under a Chinese-brokered deal, agreed to restore diplomatic relations that were severed in 2016. This marked a positive step towards cooperation, as both countries agreed to implement security and cooperation agreements to boost ties across various sectors.
