Exorbitant Prices of LPG in Pakistan: A Closer Look

In Islamabad, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) market is witnessing prices soaring above the government-fixed rates. According to Chairman LPG Distributors Association, Irfan Khokar, customers are being charged an additional Rs 35 per kilogram, with LPG prices ranging from Rs 270 to 280 per kilogram, surpassing the official rate of Rs 234.60 per kilogram.

Khokar further highlighted that domestic cylinder prices have escalated to Rs 1,875, while commercial cylinders are now priced at Rs 6,750. He noted discrepancies in the selling prices compared to the government-fixed rates, raising concerns among consumers.

In response to the price surge, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) intervened by reducing LPG rates by Rs 3.87 to Rs 234 per kilogram. This move followed a drop in production costs by the Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) due to imported LPG shipments.
