Gaza faces famine threat as Israel ground offensive hinders food aid deliveries

The World Food Programme (WFP) is working hard to reopen bakeries in Gaza to address food insecurity, with 12 operational bakeries now supported by WFP in different parts of the enclave. However, WFP Country Director, Matthew Hollingworth emphasized the need for commercial fresh food to enter northern Gaza to ensure better food security.

Furthermore, the International Protection Consortium (IPC) stressed the importance of providing malnutrition prevention services and treating acute cases, as many communities are suffering from illnesses due to extreme hunger.

Despite efforts to address malnutrition, nearly 3,000 children in southern Gaza are cut off from treatment for acute malnutrition, putting an entire generation at risk. Organizations like Save the Children and Islamic Relief have raised concerns about the long-term impact of malnutrition on Palestinian children.

The Israeli government has yet to comment on the situation, highlighting the urgent need for assistance in Gaza. It’s crucial to raise awareness about global health security to protect families and communities in need.
