Fubara steps into FAAN, Ipo community conflict

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State recently mediated a conflict between the management of Port Harcourt International Airport and the Ipo community. The dispute arose when women from the community protested, disrupting flight operations at the airport. The women had barricaded the road leading to the airport, causing delays and hindrance to access.

In a closed-door meeting facilitated by the Governor, Dr Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, announced that both parties had reached an agreement to resolve the issues. The women agreed to withdraw their blockade, while the airport management promised to address the concerns of the community through corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Hon Boniface Emerengwa, a representative in the House of Representatives, commended the Governor for his prompt action in addressing the grievances of the women. Additionally, Chairman Darlington Orji of the Ikwerre Local Government Council highlighted the need for development and engagement with airport host communities.

The airport manager, Mrs Lynda Ifesinachi Ezike, expressed gratitude for the Governor’s intervention and emphasized the commitment of the new management to maintaining positive relationships with the community for a thriving operating environment.

Overall, the swift resolution of the conflict showcases effective governance and collaboration between stakeholders for the benefit of all involved parties.
