China Calls for Respect of Syria’s Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity
China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, emphasized the importance of upholding Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while urging great powers to help de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and work towards lasting peace. During a briefing to the UN Security Council, Geng expressed concern over Israel’s continuous attacks on Syria, which violate its sovereignty. He reiterated China’s commitment to a political solution in Syria led by the Syrians themselves, emphasizing the long-term threat terrorism poses to the region’s stability.
Furthermore, Geng called for international support for the Syrian government’s efforts in combating terrorism, emphasizing the need to adhere to international law and avoid double standards in addressing this issue. He also advocated for the lifting of unilateral coercive measures on Syria and an end to the illegal military presence of foreign forces in the country.
