Bolivian President Grateful for Support Amid Failed Coup | Military News

DEVELOPING STORY,

Regional organisations rally behind Bolivian government as troops and armoured vehicles gather in the capital.

Bolivian President Luis Arce facing a coup attempt expressed gratitude to the people for defending democracy. Despite soldiers raiding the presidential palace, Arce stood firm and dismissed military leaders, including general Juan Jose Zuniga. International leaders condemned the army’s actions as illegal, applauding Arce for his stance.

Arce, in a high-tension moment, confronted Zuniga in the palace, asserting his authority. Subsequent orders by the newly appointed army chief led to troops retreating, while the public prosecutor’s office initiated a criminal investigation into the failed coup instigators. The incident sparked a large labour union strike in support of the government.

Latin American and international leaders condemned the coup attempt in Bolivia, urging the army to respect the elected government. The event has reignited tensions in the country, echoing the removal of former President Evo Morales in 2019. The international community stands united in supporting Bolivia’s democracy.
