The Academic Staff Union of Universities is urging the Federal Government to fulfill its promise to remove its members from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). Dr. Joshua Silas, Chairman of ASUU at Federal University Lokoja, emphasized this during a recent protest on campus. The union members are demonstrating nationwide to press the government to meet their demands regarding the renegotiation of agreements made in 2009.

Despite promises made by the government, ASUU claims that little progress has been made since 2009, leading to dissatisfaction among its members. The failure to address issues such as removal from IPPIS, payment of outstanding allowances, and salaries has resulted in frustration and even loss of life for some members.

The recent protest was a call to action, warning the government that further inaction could lead to another industrial action. ASUU members demand the government to fulfill its obligations to prevent any future disruptions in the education sector.

Overall, the message is clear: ASUU expects the government to honor its commitments for the betterment of both educators and students alike.
