The Government of Armenia has shown increased efforts in combating human trafficking, as noted in the 2024 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report by the US State Department. Despite not fully meeting the minimum standards, Armenia remains on Tier 2 due to its significant progress in investigating and prosecuting suspected traffickers, identifying more victims, and increasing resources for victim protection and prevention efforts.
The government has also sought input from survivors to improve victim services and reintegration programs. However, there are areas where Armenia falls short, such as inconsistent screening of vulnerable populations, lack of evidence in prosecutions, and insufficient victim-centered policies. Traffickers exploit both domestic and foreign victims, with particular vulnerability among Armenian migrants seeking employment in Russia and women in sex and labor trafficking within the country.
Overall, Armenia has identified 25 trafficking victims, including men, women, and children, and continues to address the increasing use of social media by traffickers. The report emphasizes the ongoing challenges faced by displaced persons and refugees from Nagorno Karabakh, highlighting the importance of continued efforts to combat trafficking in the region.
