CNN — After a series of mishaps, trucks loaded with humanitarian aid are finally arriving at the US military pier off the Gaza coast more consistently. However, significant challenges still remain onshore.
The US military is currently unloading about 800 pallets of aid per day to Gaza through the temporary pier, equivalent to around 40 trucks. Despite this effort, the aid is not effectively addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 2 million people are experiencing severe food insecurity levels as per a new report.
There are over 6,000 pallets of aid stacked onshore awaiting distribution due to security concerns that have led the World Food Program to halt aid collections.
CNN recently visited the pier and witnessed the logistical operation of trucks unloading aid onto the Gaza shoreline. The pier is made of interlocking floating platforms and has heavy security measures in place to protect personnel and aid deliveries.
Despite challenges, US President Joe Biden’s commitment to increasing humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza through the pier remains steadfast, emphasizing its importance in addressing the crisis in the region.
