Recent events in Jenin, West Bank, have caused international outrage as Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) used a wounded Palestinian man as a human shield. The German Foreign Ministry strongly condemned this action, with spokesman Sebastian Fischer calling the footage “hard to bear” and emphasizing the need for swift accountability.
The video shows Mujahed Azmi, a wounded Palestinian, strapped to an IOF military vehicle and paraded through the streets without receiving medical assistance. This practice of using human shields is considered a violation of international law.
The US State Department also voiced disapproval of the incident, labeling it as “absolutely unacceptable.” Eyewitnesses reported that the IOF used Azmi as a shield during a military operation in Jenin’s Jabariyat neighborhood to safeguard against potential threats.
The use of human shields is a grave violation, and Abdullah Al-Zagari, Director of the Palestinian Prisoners Society, condemned the act as part of ongoing crimes against Palestinians. The international community is being called upon to take action against such violations.
