Reports from two US officials suggest that a new military aid package for Ukraine may be sent on Tuesday, valued at $150 million. This would be part of the $61 billion allocated by Capitol Hill in April, with the last $225 million package approved on June 7.
The upcoming shipment is anticipated to contain missiles for the HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems), which have been crucial in recent military operations. The HIMARS systems have outreached the ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System), significantly impacting the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Additionally, the White House has announced funding for over three million textbooks for Ukrainian students, aiming to counteract Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian printing infrastructure.
Amidst these developments, the replacement of the Joint Forces Commander, Lieutenant General Yuriy Sodol, has been announced by President Zelensky. Sodol’s removal follows allegations of incompetence and misuse of power, with Brigadier General Andriy Gnatov stepping into the role.
In a separate matter, the EU has approved the transfer of €1.4 billion from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, despite objections from Hungary. This financial boost is vital in supporting Ukraine’s defense efforts against Russian aggression. Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about Russia’s recent dealings with North Korea, potentially leading to further destabilization in the region.
