Former finance minister Tito Mboweni has expressed concerns about the impact of more parties joining the government of national unity (GNU) on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s ability to finalize his cabinet.
The GNU now includes 10 political parties, with demands from partners like the DA for representation in all cabinet clusters complicating Ramaphosa’s decision-making process.
Mboweni emphasized the importance of a lean and competent cabinet to move the country forward, urging against an increase in the number of ministers.
Ramaphosa is facing challenges due to the diverse ideologies of the parties involved, making the cabinet appointment process complex.
As Mboweni highlighted the difficulties ahead, he wished the ANC luck in navigating through the various ideological stances brought to the table by the coalition partners.
