Tanzania’s meat exports have surged from 1,774.3 tonnes in 2022 to 14,701.2 tonnes in 2023, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Abdallah Ulega announced. This growth is attributed to increased government support for the livestock sector, with budget allocations rising significantly. The recent launch of The 21st Tanzania Economic Update Report by the World Bank in Dar es Salaam highlighted the country’s focus on developing critical infrastructure for enhanced transportation of livestock and related products to both local and global markets.
Ulega emphasized Tanzania’s legal and regulatory reforms to create a favorable business environment and encourage private sector participation in the trade of livestock and its products. With a cattle population of 36.6 million, Tanzania ranks as the second-largest in Africa after Ethiopia, according to the World Bank.
